Early Childhood Education-"Encouraging children to "Make their own Pizza"




Pizza! Yum; when it comes to a cooking project, every child enjoys to help out. It can be measuring the ingredients or using there fine motor skills to knead the dough. This cooking project is a great way to get children to eat there vegetables and make there own pizza at home, preschool or daycare!

Ingredients for the dough:
3/4 cups warm water
2 cups white bread flour
dash of salt
1 package very active yeast
corn meal
cooking spray-pam

-Mix the water, flour, salt and yeast together in a bowl;using your hands.
-Set aside and let rise-about 1-2 hours
-Flour a cutting board and using a dough roller, roll out the dough-sprinkling flour on the pizza dough; so it doesn't stick to the roller.
-Spray pam on a  pizza stone via amazon  (click on the amazon word to search)

-Sprinkle some corn meal on the sheet, transfer dough to the baking sheet and form pizza on sheet.
Turn oven on 415

Filling:
Optional:
red tomato sauce, pesto sauce,cheese, peperoni,salami,chicken breast slices,pineapple,zucchini,onion, bell pepper,basil,tomatoes,mushrooms,olives,asparagus

Bake in the oven for 20 minutes

Early Childhood Education-"Encouraging children to make a- "Cooking Project"

 
Cooking is a great skill to teach children at a young age at preschool, daycare or even at home.  Its a skill that helps children read, do math and organize their work logically.  Its very hands on, especially being able to teach children about nutrition.  There are many simple cooking projects that children can create.  It also promotes conversations among the children and problem solving with one another.  Also. a great way for children to use there fine motor skills:  Simple recipes include:
-pizza (kneading the dough)
-fruit kabobs, using raw spaghetti (making kabobs)
-lemonade (squeezing lemons)
-tacos (adding ingredients to there own)
